FOX EXEC EATS HIS OWN WORDS AFTER RED TAILS BECOMES A BOX OFFICE HIT

After bringing in $19 million at the box office over the weekend, a Fox Exec. who was surprised that black people actually have money and will go pay to see a movie that doesn't have Tyler Perry Presents in front of it says that he was wrong.

George Lucas, who is married to a black woman has gone on the record to say that he has struggled to get studios to give him the money to make Red Tails, a film about the Tuskeegee Airmen. After growing tired of Hollywood's ignorance in believing that a film with a predominantly black cast won't sell (read: white people won't go and see it so why should they care), Lucas put up $60 million of his own money. It looks like he's going to get a return on his investment.

If someone wanted to make a movie about Jewish soldiers, you know they wouldn't hesitate to greenlight it. I was worried about Red Tails not because it stars an all black cast, but because it was going up against Underworld: Awakening, a film that already has a built-in audience. I just hope with the succcess of Red Tails Hollywood can put it's fear mongering aside and greenlight more movies that show black men not only in a positive light, but that other black actors besides Will Smith and Denzel Washington can do action movies. Now if only we can get someone to believe in a project featuring an all-gay and black cast that would be my dream project.
